Meet the Artist

Anna Stepanyan

Anna Stepanyan

Through my work, I invite people to see Armenia as I see it — full of vibrant colors, simple joys, and boundless inspiration.

"I’m Anna Stepanyan, an artist from Armenia, and my journey into the world of batik began with a single project that... changed everything for me. After finishing school, I enrolled in the Yerevan State College of Light Industry, where I studied clothing modeling. This experience gave me a strong foundation in design and an appreciation for the art of creating wearable pieces. After graduating, I decided to deepen my artistic knowledge by studying fine arts and drawing at the Khachatur Abovyan Pedagogical University. Here, my fascination with art only grew, as I explored different mediums, techniques, and styles.

"For my diploma project, I chose the theme Noravank, and decided to complete it using the batik technique, which was something new to me at the time. Batik, a technique involving painting on fabric with special textile paints, felt instantly inspiring. Through this technique, I was able to capture my vision of Noravank, a famous Armenian monastery, with all the colors, textures, and details that make it unique. The experience of creating that piece was transformative—I fell completely in love with batik.

"From that moment, I knew that batik was my passion, and it became more than just a technique. Initially, I practiced it as a hobby, but as I refined my skills and began sharing my work, the positive response encouraged me to take it further. I realized that there was an opportunity not only to pursue this passion as an artist but to turn it into a business, sharing my perspective on Armenia through each piece I create.

"What drives my work is the desire to represent Armenia as I see it—through my color palette, my shapes, and often a touch of childlike simplicity. I want to convey the beauty of Armenia’s culture and landscape in ways that are accessible and resonant. Each piece is an expression of how I see my country, and the batik technique allows me to experiment with colors and textures in ways that capture the richness of Armenian tradition.

"Beyond creating art on fabric, I’ve also expanded into crafting accessories. I started by making batik paintings, but soon, my curiosity and creativity led me to try my hand at designing wearable art. Today, I create earrings, hairpins, bags, and T-shirts, all featuring my batik designs. Each item is handmade with the same care and love as my larger pieces, allowing people to wear a little piece of Armenia wherever they go.

"Currently, I have a collection of over five product types, and I am constantly exploring new ideas. My mind is filled with plans and designs that I am eager to bring to life, expanding my product range and experimenting with different forms of batik art. Every piece I make is part of my ongoing journey as an artist, and I am thrilled to continue sharing this journey with others.

"Art, for me, is a way of connecting with people and sharing the essence of Armenia’s beauty, warmth, and culture. Through my work, I invite people to see Armenia as I see it—full of vibrant colors, simple joys, and boundless inspiration."

A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

See buckle/tie belt size standards below.
