This fascinating oil painting transports the viewer to the imposing and mystical landscapes of the Andes, fusing natural elements with symbols of ancestral cultures. "Abstract forms intertwine beautifully, creating a sense of movement and dynamism that reflects the energy of nature," says Peruvian artist Miriam Chipana. "Among those shapes stand out the stylized silhouettes that evoke majestic mountains, snowy peaks, bodies of water and stepped cultivation terraces, which are traditional elements of the Andean landscape. Symbols of primeval cultures are subtly integrated into the artwork, adding an extra layer of meaning and mystery."

"I've been professionally dedicated to painting since I graduated from the School of Fine Arts in 1998. Ever since my... school years I have always excelled in drawing and painting, and that is why after finishing secondary school I had already decided to study art. I need to dedicate myself to painting; it is my passion, and I have imposed it upon myself like a religious belief.

"I am interested in form and texture, and I currently create both recognizable and abstract figures, forms that are genetic, yet diffuse, that can signify times or other subtle symbolism. I am passionate about my cultural inheritance, so full of clarity and mystery, above all the dual concept of the world: the known and the unknown. Like a river, my paintings try to collect everything, establishing a bond with the past through the forms and colors of the Andes. My paintings possess enigmas in order to be understood.

"I create works in oils, acrylics, and watercolors. In some cases I make a sketch beforehand, and in others I go straight to the canvas, clear with a preconceived idea. I prefer colors like black, blue, and red because they express a lot of force, although in the first planes I also use orange. In my work I am guided more by the form than the color; in this process I can rectify things, but it is difficult to make substantial changes. The presence of felines can be noted in my work, abstract forms that I recreate; I can change them to make them subtler, without being primordial.

"I've participated in four collective exhibitions in Peru and I continue down that path. I assumed my profession as a challenge, and despite the difficulties, I am happy with what I do. Through Novica I would like to say that my art is a return to the past splendor of my race that shows itself as it is and as it is perceived by its heirs. It is to show the past in a present, which surges spontaneously."

Miriam Chipana was born in Lima in 1975.

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

 

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

Sash tie length

Lay sash/tie out flat away from the garment and measure from end to end.

Belt with buckle

Measure from the end of the pin of the buckle (where it touches the buckle) to the middle hole.

Belt without buckle

Measure from the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This is will give you the medium size of the belt.
