Lida Evaristo of Peru designs a gorgeous black suede sling featuring a mesmerizing laser-cut sun motif. The sun is created by making precise cuts in a circle, then twisting each resulting strip, revealing glimpses of saddle brown suede underneath, and securing it with a rivet. A circle of metal rivets forms the center of the sun. Brown suede lacing accents the bottom of the bag. The roomy main compartment closes with a zipper and is lined in dark brown faux leather with a zipper pocket.

"I'm fascinated by the colors and designs used by our Inca ancestors. They are unique in the world."

"I'm Lida Evaristo Salas. I was born in 1955 in Peru's capital city. I'm a perfectionist, hardworking and painstaking... with the quality of my art.

"There was a time when our economic situation was extremely complicated and I was forced to find a thousand ways to pay the bills and take care of my family. My children, more than anything else, have been my reason for living. They're the reason I get up each morning and I think that everything is possible, thanks to them. I've learned that no matter how difficult the situation, love will overcome. They've taught me not to let the obstacles get me down but to always seek solutions even when it seems impossible.

"This is why I feel proud. I've always worked very hard for my children and family and I'll do this until the day I die.

"I discovered the art of crafting handbags when traveling in Apurímac with my mother. I loved the weavings and colors. My aunt wove the fabrics by hand and, eventually, she and other family members taught me.

"I'm fascinated by the colors and designs used by our Inca ancestors. They are unique in the world due to the incredible quality of the work and the natural shades and colors inspired by the rainbow.

"While it was difficult to start out on my own, it wasn't impossible. I had to pay my children's school expenses, so this art of mine arose out of necessity. I believed it offered us the possibility to get ahead but I also felt a great attraction to weaving and I enjoy it. I always craft my designs with much love.

"I like the wide range of colors available to us and I also enjoy our traditional hand-weaving techniques used by the Inca to create their clothing. It's impressive to think that I'm continuing with my country's historic legacy.

"I've taught my children this art and they've accepted it with love and dedication. I'm also teaching others who are interested in learning. I had the privilege to teach weaving in an artisan workshop and this was one of the best experiences in my life.

"It's not an easy art to learn. For me, it took a lot of effort, I had to train and later practiced in a local workshop for several years to learn all the processes in textiles and leather work. Finally, I began setting up my own workshop where I use handloomed fabrics and leather to craft shoes and handbags.

"I especially like combining fabric with leather. The textiles we use are impressive. My inspiration comes from nature, from the rainbow, from plants, from Peru's Andean landscapes and, in general, from our pre-Hispanic heritage.

"My dream is for my workshop to grow. I imagine selling my handbags all over the world and making an impact on fashion. But more importantly, I hope that God will grant me life and health to continue working, doing what I truly love."

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

 

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

Sash tie length

Lay sash/tie out flat away from the garment and measure from end to end.

Belt with buckle

Measure from the end of the pin of the buckle (where it touches the buckle) to the middle hole.

Belt without buckle

Measure from the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This is will give you the medium size of the belt.
